There are supposedly over 4.5 million podcasts worldwide, so it begs the question: does it need another one?!
Truthfully the answer is no, but I feel compelled to start one for a variety of reasons. As always, I like to share things in the moment as I’m experiencing them so that you can experience it along with me but also so that I can revisit this moment and see if the feeling and energy still lasts.
It compliments my strengths
I’ve always loved talking to people. In elementary and middle school, that got me into a lot of trouble. In high school and beyond, it got me out of a lot of trouble.
I find people truly fascinating and I’m that classic American that often asks “so, what do you do”. I’ve learned living in Europe that it’s frowned upon but I’m always genuinely curious, because the more I talk to people the more I learn about how wide the world of opportunities are. Just in Amsterdam, some of our closest friends are a personal stylist, an architect, an opera singer, and a teacher. How cool!
Podcasting let’s me focus that into something that is hopefully a net positive for the Marketing world. I want to talk to the marketers and the data scientists and the growth leaders and the operators and everyone else that makes B2C marketing as magical and exciting as it is. I just want to talk to people and hear their stories!I want to hear richer stories
So often podcasts focus on those that have made it. I get why they do it, but I also want to highlight how current scrappy B2C startups and scaleups are doing it. Imagine you’re a B2C founder and you’re curious how other scaleups are crushing it on TikTok or marketing to GenZ. Well take a listen to some of my episodes and you can find that out.
I also want to hear stories from more women. So far 3/8 of my guests are women and I hope in the long run I can get true parity. I’ll also continue to focus on diversity across other factors as well so that I’m truly able to learn from the best of the best.
Lastly, I also want to focus on geographic diversity. So much of my content feeds focus on American stories especially Silicon Valley. There are incredible people doing incredible work all over the world. I feel lucky that my 8 guests live in 6 different countries. I’m going to continue pushing that.
I want to build a community
It feels often like Marketing is under attack. Whether it’s from PMs to Finance to other functions, everyone thinks they’re a Marketer. My goal, in coordination with my newsletter, is to equip Marketers, Data Professionals, and Growth Leaders with the tools they need to not only appear data driven but to fully embody it.
You shouldn’t leave my newsletter or podcast without knowing what an incrementality test or how to navigate a segmentation strategy that you can build within a week (okay, very specific examples, but you get it…).Point is that there are thousands of B2C Marketers out there that want to feel like they’re a part of something with a safe space to ask questions and share answers. experiMENTAL will be that platform.
So, having said all that, I’m excited to share the trailer for my podcast below!
And on July 10th, Episodes 1 and 2 officially drop
